Schools - Primary

To hold morning and afternoon workshops:

Possibly starting from morning break time.

Currently we are run drum workshop for schools, using our large (42 gallon) plastic barrel drums and other miscellaneous instruments.

The basic format is: Arrive at participating school just prior to the morning break to set up – requires a fairly spacious room for class and instruments – assembly/games halls are the ideal but not essential. In the better weather an outside area is a useful option.
First class – of up to 30– from end of break till lunch. Second class, possibly taking a shorter lunch break, running till school ends. Possible variation: with the class ending in time for the children to do a short performance for the rest of the school.
Some schools prefer that a single class – drawn from a “natural” grouping, or from children “opting in”- is taken for the whole of the available time, and then performing for the rest of the school.

The activity is more suited to older children. However a number of schools have allowed time for the junior classes to have a “hands-on” experience after the older children have performed.

TRASH has been a popular event at primary schools over the last 10 years giving a whole class choice - including teachers – not normally available from providers. The children gain in confidence, learn to co-operate in groups; acquire rhythm skills; improve listening and retention skills.

Secondary

In principal similar workshops can be held in Secondary schools. The only problems relate to the internal routine of secondary schools, which can make bringing in outsiders a problem. For this reason, a lot of secondary schools invite us in for special and holiday events – especially for their more disadvantaged pupils.
